We're NOT home
Something between a mini disaster and a royal inconvenience has struck September House. The sewer pipe below the house is clogged or collapsed and the water (including toilet water) backed up into the downstairs causing yuk to the 10th power.
People are coming to clean and plumb tomorrow.
We shall know more by tomorrow night but we have booked a week at the local Residence Inn in the meanwhile. They serve dinner on the weekdays and thus our insurance agent recommends them. We will be eating out on the weekends. (Just what we wanted after a month on the road)
27 days, 3960 miles, 16 pounds later
We're home.
27 days - 15 of them on the road and the remainder with Rainy or Loretta and Gene.
3960 miles - and that's with having gone south on the auto train or the mileage would have been a lot more
16 pounds - we each gained exactly eight pounds on this trip. We learned that the rule which says we can eat dessert only when dining out doesn't work well if you're always dining out. We learned that there's a good reason why we don't keep snacks in the house. We'll eat whatever is set in front of us. I ate everything - including those goldfish crackers which I don't even LIKE !!
I'll post s few final pics as soon as my brain functions again.
Sunday Feb 20th
Georgia on our minds -
We stopped in Rossville to visit Gene and Loretta and were immediately treated to some real home cooking. There was a pot roast with potatoes and veggies to DIE for, followed by apple pie. Sure was delicious.
The whole evening we looked at photo albums, had a good jaw wag, and provided enlightenment (Hank to Loretta on the subject of computers). Gene has such interesting stories about how things were when he was a young 'un. Somebody really ought to write them down.
We could stay only one night because I had to get back for CAHSEE training. *sigh*
